I see all this stuff about .iso files. Iam good with computers but theres much i don’t know and thats one of em. How do i use an iso to install Linux?
Like do i have to install it to a CD? Or can i use it on my hard drive?
Also, how compatible is it with other programs like games and the free ware software i always get? Or is there someway to make it work with other games?
What distribution company should i use? Mandriva, Ubuntu, Xandros? ETC.
And i want to be able to switch to windows easily. If i have too.

I plan on purchasing a Gateway desktop PC in the near future and wish to replace the Windows Vista operating system with Mandriva Linux.
If the PC comes with a recovery partition (D:\), would I be able to remove it before reformatting/installing Linux, to make more hard disk space available? If the PC came with restore discs, would I be able to “restore’” Vista at a later time if I removed the restore partition?
